April Fool

Yesterday, April Fools Day, I finally took a day off. I had been writing, or editing, everyday since November first.

What started as a challenge (NaNoWriMo) became a marathon, and then became an obsession.  I was actually worried that if I took a day off I would somehow lose the work ethic I had finally acquired.

Mid January I thought ‘I need to take a day off,’ but that was followed quickly by ‘But why would I take a day in the middle of the month off, that makes no sense.’  So I continued to write. The same happened the next month, and the next.  The last day of each month I was filled with ideas I needed to write down, there was no way I was going to take those day off.

Last week I realized that  not only was the end of the month approaching, but it would be April Fools day, how appropriate.

So I took the day off.

    1. I found the November word count challenge exactly what I needed. But now, even yesterday, I needed to go back, reread my first chapters to get back on track. I had to remind myself that I was actually still writing, even though I was mostly correcting grammar along the way. One day it will all come together 🙂

  3. Interesting reasoning. As a rebel, I love random mid-month, mid-week days off – just as I love being on the elliptical for 13 mins and 31 seconds at the gym instead of stopping at a round number.

    My writing days off usually see me thinking about the story and making notes anyway, but also getting out and having hot chocolate and cake with friends!
